Common questions
How do I log my first spend?
Hold the orb and say it the way you'd tell a friend: “twelve dollars for coffee at Starbucks”. Let go when you're done. Tape shows the transcript as you speak, then a confirmation pill — Logged $12.00 · Food — with Undo. That's the whole flow.
How does hands-free work?
Slide up from the orb and put the phone down. Tape keeps listening until you stop talking — walking to the car, unloading the shopping, driving home. It ends itself after 3 seconds of silence (8 before you've said your first word), and caps at 2 minutes.
Can it handle more than one thing in a sentence?
Yes. “Three hundred on shopping, forty on gas, lunch was thirty, and payday was a thousand” splits into four entries. Every one is shown to you on a review sheet before anything is written — a guess never touches the ledger unconfirmed.
How do I scan a receipt?
Open the camera view and point it at the receipt — or a whole multi-page statement. Tape reads it line by line, gives every row a category, and shows you the result for review. The image is encrypted on the device before it's read.
Which Siri shortcuts are available?
Seven, live from install with no setup: “Tape, log it”, “Start hands-free in Tape”, “Log an expense in Tape”, “I got paid in Tape”, “How much have I spent in Tape”, “What's left of my budget in Tape”, and “Scratch that in Tape”. They work with the app closed, without unlocking the phone.
Does it remember how I categorise things?
Yes. Tell it once that Domino's is Food, and the next Domino's files itself. The learning happens on the device, from your own spending, and it belongs to you.
How do budgets work?
Set a monthly budget and per-category envelopes. Tape shows what you set and what you've spent against it — it never invents a daily allowance you didn't choose and then tells you you've broken it. Every total names its own window: today, this week, this month, all time.
Can I edit or delete an entry?
Tap any row on the tape to expand it, then edit or delete. Search the whole history from the top of the tape.
Which currencies are supported?
USD, CAD, EUR, PKR and AED — detected from your region and switchable per entry.
Is my data really private?
Structurally. There is no account, no bank connection, no analytics and no server — the AI runs on your iPhone's chip. Storage is encrypted, an optional Face ID lock is available, and the App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.
